Faculty

Membership in the Bronfenbrenner Life Course Center as a faculty affiliate is open to faculty members, extension associates, or research associates interested in teaching, research, or outreach related to effective families and lives, at all stages of the life course. Application for membership can be made at any time. Members will be periodically queried as to whether they wish to continue being included in the Bronfenbrenner Life Course Center. Membership benefits include receiving announcements regarding BLCC events, funding opportunities and other relevant research-related information.

Dr. Daniel T. Lichter, Director, is the Ferris Family Professor in the Department of Policy Analysis and Management, and Professor of Sociology. He received his Ph.D. in Sociology in 1981 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  He joined the Cornell faculty in August 2005. He has previously taught at Pennsylvania State University (1981–1999) and The Ohio State University (1999–2005). Lichter has published widely on demographic topics related to family and welfare policy, including studies of children’s changing living arrangements and poverty, cohabitation and marriage among unwed mothers, and welfare incentive effects on the family. His recent work has focused on patterns of interracial marriage and cohabitation in the United States, on the new destinations of recent immigrants, especially Hispanics moving to less densely-settled rural areas, and on changing patterns of concentrated poverty and racial segregation among racial and ethnic minorities.

Dr. Rhoda Meador, Assistant Director, is a Senior Extension Associate and Associate Director of Outreach and Extension for the College of Human Ecology. She received her Ph.D. in Family and Consumer Sciences from Iowa State University in 2008. Meador previously served as the Assistant Director of the Cornell Institute for Translational Research on Aging (1998–2009) and as a community-based educator for Cornell Cooperative Extension (1993–1997). She is an interdisciplinary social scientist and educator whose research focuses primarily on improving health and social systems to better serve older people and their caregivers. She has been involved in numerous research projects and educational programs that bridge the gap between research and practice. Meador has spent much of her career working with practice and applied audiences in a variety of education, human service, and health care settings. She has designed, evaluated and implemented a variety of programs and is the author and co-author of numerous books, manuals, and articles. More recently, she is also affiliated with the Cornell Translational Research Institute for Pain in Late Life (TRIPLL) located at the Weill Cornell Medical College.

Carrie Chalmers, Administrative Assistant, contributes support for the day-to-day operations of the center, including logistical support, web site maintenance, scheduling, event planning, and other administrative functions.
