opportunities

The BLCC sponsors a variety of educational and training events for the Cornell community throughout the year. The goal of these events is to offer a forum to learn about emerging research and to promote a learning community among faculty and students.

Children & Chaos Discussion PanelThese include an annual speaker series, a semi-annual invitational conference, and colloquia featuring prominent national and international scholars whose work focuses on interdisciplinary, demographic, and life course issues. The speaker series and colloquia are open to faculty, staff, and students from the Cornell and local community. The BLCC also encourages student scholarship through its support of the Gerontology Certificate Program. This program provides students with the opportunity to pursue academic training in courses that explore human development and social issues related to the aging population. The program also provides the opportunity for access to aging-related scholarships and research experiences.

CITRA Education and Training

CITRA Video ConferenceThe Cornell Institute for Translational Research on Aging (CITRA) presents education and training events that support their goal of encouraging Cornell faculty and students to engage in aging-related research. Each year they convene consensus workshops, a participatory method that bridges the gap between research and practice, which focus on emerging issues in the fields of gerontology and geriatric medicine. These workshops address the need for meaningful dialogue between researchers and practitioners; identify discrepancies between interventions recommended by research and the actual experience of practitioners; and lead to recommendations for a future research agenda.

The CITRA web site provides additional detailed information about their education and training opportunities.

CPP Education and Training

The Cornell Population Program (CPP) presents an annual seminar series aimed at providing opportunities for Cornell faculty to learn more about national and international population research. These seminars aid in encouraging cross-disciplinary innovation, facilitating research funding, improving interdisciplinary training, and converting academic studies into policy recommendations and guidance for practitioners. The seminars provide Cornell faculty with access to national and international scholars whose research is related to the CPP mission.

The CPP web site provides additional detailed information about their education and training opportunities.

PAD Education and Training

The Program on Applied Demographics (PAD) hosts workshops that teach Cornell faculty, staff and students how to use demographic and economic data for a number of purposes, including community profiles, planning, and program evaluations. These educational offerings support their goal of applying demographics methods and techniques to the latest economic and population trends.

The PAD web site provides additional detailed information about their education and training opportunities.
